Slovenia

The most prosperous of the former communist European states, it was the only former Yugoslav republic to be invited to join the EU in 2004 and the first 'new' European accession country to join the eurozone.

Economic Strengths

Euro adoption in January 2007. Stable economy. Good infrastructure & well-educated workforce.

Economic Weaknesses

Rising tension with Serbia over recognition of Kosovan independence. Slow pace of implementation of economic reforms (labour market perceived as inflexible. FDI lags behind regional average.
